WINTER WONDERLAND REFRESH
Hi guys! Long time! 2016 has gone insanely fast for me! I have to say each year seems to go faster and faster with age – youngins beware.
With lots of growth and retrospect I can surely say that it’s been a positive year. Either I’ve learned the most in my 30 years on this Earth in 2016 or it just finally all clicked and my brain and mindful state caught up with all I’ve ingested over my three decades of life. Without getting deep, because really no ones here for that, including me, I have to say I’ve matured and grown in ways I never thought were actually quite possible – considering my strong personality and speak-my-mind directness – I am a Capricorn through and through – I thought some qualities I was kind of stuck with – turns out you can be a super direct, positive, and strong woman without being a b-i-t-c-h. I know, shocking right?! In all seriousness I am so incredibly grateful for all I have learned through this thing called life. As it happens, you tend to learn the most from the most difficult times, however, what I learned is that those difficult times are there to shape you into the person you are meant to be. I’m lucky to have been through so much at an early age that I can appreciate what’s important, and focus on my health, family and happiness. Because, that’s all we really have in the end and have control over. Everything else is going to happen just as it’s supposed to from the man upstairs, so as long as you continue to live grateful and positive through all your trials and tribulations you’ll succeed in personal growth. Not sure if I’m rambling at this point, but I just feel so strongly about this. We’re also not here on this blog to get spiritual, although I FULLY suggest and support that and is what I have done the absolute MOST throughout my 2016 – I’m mainly here…in this specific post – to talk about this completely new Christmas Refresh I decided to do with our decor this year.
I love it!
What do you guys think?
For years I’ve been super traditional, applying to my Christmas decor as well as my beliefs and role in life. Well, suffice it to say, that ship has sailed…well maybe just evolved! Evolved into a much more well rounded refined and transitional taste and style. Kind of relating to all facets on my current life. But back to the decor!
I call it my Winter Wonderland Refresh! Partly because Winter Wonderland is the name of the ornament collection I went with – hey I never said I was that creative 😉
And partly because, well they hit the nail on the head! It’s just such a beautiful snow-covered wonderland color palette. I almost said dainty, but I’m not into that word or super feminine decor – so I’ll stick with light and warm palette 😉
Mike and I were in the market for a new Xmas tree – we usually do faux which I happen to prefer, only because I once had a friend who’s tree died way before Christmas and it just looked so sad withering away with all the ornaments barely hanging on and needles shedding a sad death on the floor. So this way I can manage the winter wonderland dream for as long as I plan on having the it live in our home. Also, I can sometimes be a control freak and our Christmas tree is one of those things I need to have the way I like, up the day I want to put it up, and fully dissembled and taken down when I’m ready for that. And with a faux tree, I’m able to control all of those things – so it’s a win win for us.
I picked out this 7.5′ Snow Covered (Flocked) Pine – it’s beautiful and sparkly.
We grabbed this bad boy at Home Depot.
Once I put it up, I realized I would be in the market for ornaments since my traditional red & gold theme wasn’t going to mesh well with the frosted snow. I needed more of a softer color palette, more white and silver. Also, I usually stray far from blue, but the hues in this palette really went beautifully together in their own unique gradient. Plus the frosted blue is like a baby blue, I’ve been calling it our baby tree because it’s a good balance with lots of pale rose / pink gold & baby blue going on.
I’m also famous for my sticks! Mike makes fun of me for these but they legit make the tree theme I’m telling you! For this new color theme I went with bunches of snow white ‘sticks’ to fill up the tree – it’s almost like willow’s breath (Pinterest it, trust me you’ll love it) – really makes it pop and look professionally done.
Best part of all, I did this whole Winter Wonderland overhaul on a mega budget and got almost all ornaments at Target on sale! You can shop the full decor in the slideshow below.
